One more question that deserves an entry of it's own.

What's the difference between a worker and a sorter? Why do sorters get to shop so early?

Let's be honest, our sale is what it is greatly due to our wonderful volunteers. From receiving to removing tags or working the final sort, every position is important. So what do sorters do and why do they get to shop first?

Sorters are the few who commit to helping out once the sale has come to a close. At that point, every last item is sorted by seller number and gathered together so our consignors can walk in on Sunday and pick their items up without having to search high and low for them. Sorting isn't for the faint of heart, but it is something that we do work hard to keep fun and as fast moving as possible.

For a sorter to shop the super early Sorter PreSale, they must commit to working the entire sort shift, from the time of close (2PM) til the bitter end - regardless of how long it takes. Obviously, the more hands we have working, the smoother and more quickly we are able to wrap things up.

If you enjoy organization, aren't afraid to do a little hard work (nothing too physically challenging, honest) and are able to stay and work till the job's done, contact us today. We'd love to have you join our crew!

CNC Sale Reminder

It’s getting closer! Chelsey Nicole’s Closet (CNC Sale) opens for receiving in less than 2 weeks! The weather might be chilly right now, but your kids will be headed to the pool and wearing summer clothes in no time!

Just a reminder that CNC will be opening the doors or our new – LARGER – and easier to access space on Saturday Feb 28 from 10AM – 6PM. Receiving will continue on Sunday, March 1 from 2PM-5PM and again on Monday, March 2 from 9AM-2PM. Tagging information, location, dates and FAQ can be found on this website. Still have questions? Please call Trisha at 823-7665 or email at tgilbert@cncsale.com and we’ll do our best to help you out.

While tagging, please keep in mind that we are only accepting spring and summer clothing, with the exception of jeans. Wire hangers are definitely preferred, and many dry-cleaners will give them to you free for the asking. We are accepting boys clothing through size 20, and girls through Junior size 9 for this sale.

**Workers are still needed, so email Trisha if you’re interested, and receive entry to the special Workers presale. The presale will be open to sorters from 4-5 on Tuesday, March 3, to workers from 5-6, and consignors from 6-7. All consignors will receive a guest pass at receiving, and guests will be allowed to shop the 7-8PM presale. Consignors also earn the privilege of shopping half price all day Friday, one day earlier than the public half price sale

See you all there!

CNC Sale FAQ

What is my consignor number?

Your consignor number is your first and last initial followed by the last 4 digits of your phone number.

Do I need to pre-register to sell with you?

Nope. Just bring your items in, tagged and ready and we'll get you all set up.

Do I need an appointment for drop off? What are the best times to come by?

No appointment needed. There are busy times and there are slower times. They vary from one sale to the next, but we have some awesome volunteers who keep things running smoothly and help to get you in and out as quickly as possible.

I've never consigned before, how much should I charge for __fill in the blank__?

There tend to be a few schools of thought on this question. There are those who are still emotionally attached to the item and would rather take it home than risk not getting what they feel it's worth.

Then there are the folks who just don't want to bring that item back into their home and would just about give it away.

And there are many who fall somewhere in between.

A general rule for bigger items (riding toys/furniture/etc) in *excellent* condition would be 30-50% of the original price. Clothing tends to go for less. If you paid $20 for a dress, someone may or may not be willing to pay 50% for it, unless it's boutique or a nicer name brand. I advise all sellers to just be honest with themselves and ask how much they would pay for the item in question.

I have some things still tagged from another sale, can I just use those tags?

Probably. Just give us a call or send us and email and check first, please.

How do I get in on the early presales? Is volunteering hard work?

Just let us know if you're interested in volunteering to help during the sale. We can use workers from receiving time all the way to the final Super Saturday Sorting.

Much of the work does involve a good bit of standing, but none is really physically taxing. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and come make some new friends and have some fun while you earn the right to shop even earlier!

Can you tell me what your consignor fee and seller split are?

Sure can! We charge a $6 consignor fee, which can be taken from your check. Our seller split is 70/30.

Have a question that wasn't answered here? Drop us a line or give us a call and we'll do our best to help you out.

Spring Sale '09 - what we're looking for

ACCEPTING

Maximum of 250 items per consignor. Choose your best items to sell & be honest with yourself. If you wouldn't buy it, there's a good chance no one else will either.

Sporting and swim equipment.

Cothing sells much better when it is clean and wrinkle free.

NOT ACCEPTING

Fall/Winter items

Stuffed animals

Grab bags

Undergarments/socks (unless new and in unopened package)

Dirty, stained, torn or out of date clothing. Take a moment to sew on missing buttons, this can make or break a sale.

Tagging tips and tidbits

Don't know where to start? Hopefully this will help give you a little nudge in the right direction.

Your Consignor number is your first and last initials followed by the last 4 digits of your phone number. Ex: AB1234,YZ5678. No need to call for a number.

All clothing items must have a 3x5 index card safety pinned vertically onto garment.

The top 1" of your card should remain blank except for your safety pin.

Place card on the top right of each item with hanger facing to the left.

Take a moment to iron your clothing. Wrinkle free clothes sell much better.

If your clothes are not in good condition, please help us protect the integrity of our sale, and take it to Goodwill or another agency that takes donations.

Make sure the hanger hook faces to the left when looking at the item. Every year we have folks who have to switch their hangers, and this is very time consuming for them.

You do not need an appointment to drop your clothes off at receiving. There are busy times and slow times, but with the help of our wonderful volunteers, we do our best to get you in and out as quickly as possible.

When hanging pants, do not drape them over the hanger. They can be pinned securely to the hanger. They will sell much better this way, because they will not bunch to the side or fall from the hanger.

Index cards need to be taped securely to all non-clothing items.

Wire hangers are preferred, but we do accept plastic hangers as well. Wire hangers are often free for the asking from your local dry cleaner.

Price items in whole dollar increments (ex: $1.00, not $.75 or $1.50) If your item is not marked in a whole dollar amount, we will round down to the nearest dollar at time of purchase.

Each item must have only 1 size. Please no sizes like 10-12, 12-14 or S,M,L (except Maternity). Pick an appropriate size and use that number (when in doubt, it's usually best to choose the smaller size ex: shirt is size 10-12, mark it as a size 10).

Please indicate on the tag if an item is Juniors. (ex: Jr. 5). No sizes over Jrs 9 will be accepted for this sale.

If you do not want your items to be discounted 50% on Saturday, write ND under the price.

Please limit your 0-18 month items to a total of 100 per gender. This is always the biggest section and when they are tight on the racks they do not sell as well.

Tape your items well, with packing tape if possible. When a piece is sparated it will probably not sell, and we may never find the missing piece to return it to you.

Do not put tape on books, it will rip them when it is removed. Place in a zip lock bag or tie them together with string to group them.

Place bedding sets in extra-large zip-lock bags ("Big Bags") unless you have the original plastic that they came in. They will stay clean and together this way.

Please choose only shoes in excellent condition and do your best to make sure they will stay together throughout the sale. There's just not much demand for a single shoe. ;o) Zippered bags work well for this. Please tape the tag to the outside of the bag if using a zippered bag.

At drop off, please have your clothing items sorted by gender and size. This helps keep things moving smoothly for all involved.

Don't forget that on the Friday of our sale, consignors shop for half price all day long. This is one day before our public half price sale and is a big benefit to consignors.

Good news from the CPSC!!

Whew!

After a few days of wondering just how the new Child Protection laws would affect those of us who use (and love) various children's resale venues, the CPSC has issued a press release clarifying their new requirements. The good news is...it appears that we're in no immediate danger! You can read the official report from the CPSC here.

The Spring Sale is most definitely still on and we're looking forward to seeing each one of you there. Thanks for your concern and support. You are much more than consignors and customers to us. You are friends and family, and we're thankful for each one of you.

Urgent message about new Children's resale legislation - and how you can help!

Have you heard about the new law?

In an attempt to protect our children from lead and other harmful chemicals, a bill has been passed that will make it illegal to sell used or handmade children's clothing, toys or equipment after Feb 10, 2009, unless they have been tested for these chemicals.

This will directly affect stores such as Goodwill, Salvation Army, Once Upon a Child, Platos Closet and your favorite local consignment stores. Also, you'll see a big change take place on websites such as EBay, Craigslist and etsy. And let's not forget craft shows, consignment sales and even yard sales. Yes, friends, it will be against the law for you to sell your child's outgrown sleepers and strollers in your own driveway.

As a consignment sale owner, this is very disturbing.

As a mother, I'm enraged.

BUT GOD...He's bigger than this!!

Please contact your representatives today, and ask your friends to do likewise. The law will go into place Feb 10. I have no doubt the intentions were good. It's impact is just far too great.

Young families, just starting out, who have no choice but to rely on second hand items for their children will be affected.

Established & middle income families who rely on selling their children's outgrown items at yard sales and consignment stores to provide the money for next years clothing will be affected.

And, in a nation with a growing awareness of pollution and carbon footprints, let's take just a moment to think of what this will do to our landfills.

Please contact your representatives today. Let them know your thoughts on this matter. They need to hear it straight from us!

***To put a stop to rumors before they even begin, the CNC Spring Sale '09 is still on! Dates are set for the first week in March, with more details coming soon - so mark your calendars now! This system works and we're standing in faith that this law will be overturned or rewritten. We're moving forward as planned and are so thankful for our wonderful CNC Friends and Family.***

You can read the LA Times article on this law here.

And click this link to CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TODAY!! Let your voice be heard on this matter!
